First day of BNP Paribas Poland Open qualifying is over. Weronika Falkowska (WC) is the only Polish player that has qualified for the final round after her win over Jamie Loeb (8) of USA. She will face Kateryna Bondarenko (4) of Ukraine for a place in the main draw.
– I was given a chance and I took it – Weronika Falkowska commented after the match.
Today’s win in the first round of BNP Paribas Poland Open qualifying gives her 12 WTA points. In tournaments that Weronika has taken part in and won so far, the winner receives 10 points. The Pole can be even happier with the match as there was a moment of doubt in the middle of the second set, when a 4:0 lead turned into 4:3 15:40.
– In each match there are moments of crisis, it’s impossible to be fully focused from start to finish. Worse bits are inevitable – Weronika explained.
She handled the pressure very well though: she held her service game and burst out with emotions. A few moments later the chair umpire announced: “Game, set, match – Falkowska”.
– In a WTA tournament you don’t get anything for free, players make fewer unforced errors than in ITF events. You have to fight for every single point – Weronika Falkowska summarized.
