Polish doubles players presented themselves from their best sides on Friday on the Legia Tenis&Golf courts. The day was not so successful for Iga Świątek, who went out in the quarter-final.

It was a match contest, but there could only be one champion. In the quarter-final of the BNP PARIBAS Poland Open, the world’s ranking No. 1 lost the match with Caroline Garcia 1:6, 6:1 and 4:6.

The two first sets were one-sided. In the first one, the French player dominated Iga Świątek, who was not giving her best. The balance of powers reversed in the second one, and the Polish player played way better. However, in the crucial moments of the third set Garcia, once No. 4 of the WTA ranking, made fewer mistakes and impressed with effectiveness.

– I think that Caroline played an excellent match today and indeed pressed me. She gave me no time, especially on the clay court – Iga Świątek assessed.

Semi-final opponent of Garcia is Jasmine Paolini, who, after a three-set long clash and unexpected twists, defeated Viktorija Golubić 1:6, 6:2, 6:2. Kateryna Baindl, who beat Petra Martić 1:6, 6:3, 6:4 today, and Ana Bogdan, who destroyed Laura Pigossi 6:1, 6:1, will contend for the second place in the singles final.
